The Person Filling this Position Shall Possess

  • A valid Wisconsin teaching certificate
  • A Masters Degree or Administrative Certification in one of the following areas: Continuing and Adult Education, Community Development, Community Schools, Community Education, Parks and Recreation, or Public Relations and Communication
  • Three years of successful teaching or administrative experience (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, community businesses and agencies and community resources
Reports Directly to:  District Administrator

Position Function

The Community Education Director is responsible for the overall development, organization, operation and coordination of the broadly defined Community Education Program and Community Center. The functions of this program assume responsibility in recruiting, selection, training, supervisory and evaluation of all paid and on paid staff members working with Community Education.  Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
  • Program Development
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning
  • School and Community Relations
  • Summer School
  • Staff Development
  • Supervision
  • Community Education Advisory Council

Position Responsibilities

Program  Development

  • Develop / facilitate programs, classes, or activities, that meet cultural, social, recreation, education, and health needs of all the residents of the school district
  • Implement a Needs Assessment on a regular scheduled basis

Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Submit an annual budget to District Office
  • Maintain appropriate financial records for all programs and activates

School and Community Relations

  • Coordinate the development of the district’s newsletters, brochures, catalogs, etc that inform the community of school issues and activities.

Summer School

  • Develop summer school classes
  • Recruit, select, and supervise summer school staff
  • Complete DPI Application for Summer School State reimbursement

Staff Development

  • Act as chairperson for the Staff Development Committee
  • Provide courses and inservice programs that address Sauk Prairie School District Curriculum
  • Provide inservice opportunities for support staff and certified staff in the following areas: performance improvement, job orientation, (new staff), career development, personal health, physical and mental and emotional.

Supervision

  • Monitor Aquatics program staff
  • Monitor After School Program
  • Supervise summer school staff
  • Supervise community education staff

Community Education Advisory Council

  • Facilitate activities of the council which reflects a cross section of the district residents, community organizations, and age groups.
  • Establish regular scheduled meetings of the council (6 meetings per year) 
Dr. Evers began his career in 1976 as a classroom educator in Tomah and has served Wisconsin students, parents, and citizens as an education leader at every level -- principal, school district administrator, CESA administrator, and deputy state superintendent -- before his election to the state's highest educational post.
Born and raised in Plymouth, Wisconsin, Dr. Evers graduated from Plymouth High School and earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Evers is married to his high school sweetheart Kathy, an educator. They are parents of three adult children, all public school graduates, and have five grandchildren.
