Research in education

About the journal

The Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education is an online peer-reviewed Journal, the central aim of which is to promote improved practice by encouraging informed debate into pedagogic and related matters in higher education.

Coverage

The coverage of the journal includes, but is not limited to:
  • all disciplines and subject areas covering higher education policy and management
  • learning and teaching
  • technology-enhanced learning
  • innovative methodologies and reflections on current practice

Topicality

Higher education in the UK and across the world has become a major topic of debate and controversy. Given the range of pressures and resultant changes in HE, this is not surprising. But the quality and quantity of critical debate and its relationship with practice remains limited. Thus, whilst there has been much written about learning and teaching in primary and secondary education more emphasis is required on learning and teaching in Higher education. The Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education brings into focus the many issues and themes underpinning learning, teaching and assessment in Higher Education.  In addition, we recognise that issues around learning and teaching, particularly when these debates seek to inform practice, can only be fully understood in the context of policy and management of HEIs. Hence the journal’s remit is deliberately wide. We also recognise that many developments are international and to participate in debates about HE requires scholarship that includes reflections and research on experiences across and in many countries.
